Carbon man admits resisting arrest during domestic incident

A Carbon County man admitted resisting arrest and persistent disorderly conduct during a domestic incident involving his mother.

Andrea Mazzella, 47, formerly of Jim Thorpe, now of Lehighton, entered the pleas before Judge Steven R. Serfass in the county court on Thursday.Mazzella was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge after troopers responded to the home of his mother, Ida Mazzella, along Autumn Lane in Penn Forest Township on Sept. 2, 2015.When troopers attempted to remove him from the site he struggled with the officers. Troopers had touse a stun gun on him to get him under control. He also shouted at the troopers while outside the home.Mazzella told Serfass, "I was rude to the officer. I'd like to apologize to him."Assistant District Attorney Michael S. Greek told the court that the victim and arresting officer agreed to the plea bargain. Charges of aggravated and simple assault were dropped in the agreement.Serfass sentenced him to time served (11 days) to 12 months in jail on the resisting charge and six months of probation on the conduct charge, with the terms running consecutively. He was also ordered to pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and probation, and render a total of 75 hours of community service.
