Southern Carbon seniors win games

The Carbon County Senior Games has named this year's champion.

Going into the final day of competition, Southern Carbon County, consisting of Lehighton and Palmerton seniors, led the games by a slim margin, but the defending champs, Northern Carbon County, made up of Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe and Weatherly seniors, wasn't going down without a fight.The seniors showed off their bingo, pinochle, rummy and dance skills Wednesday at the Lehighton Recreation Center, but when the music stopped and all was said and done, it was the Southern Carbon County seniors who came out on top in this year's Carbon County Senior Games.The final score was Southern Carbon County, 725; Northern Carbon County, 624.The results for Wednesday's events are:Bingo: Pat Gable of Palmerton, gold; Darlyne Hinkle of Weatherly, silver; and Trish Kane of Panther Valley, bronze.Pinochle: Louise Bishop of Lehighton, gold; William James of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Linda Swartz of Palmerton, bronze.Rummy: Dale Evans of Lehighton, gold; Linda Daubenspeck of Lehighton, silver; and Pat Schappell of Lehighton, bronze.Polka: Fran Haas and Henry Long of Lehighton, gold; Pat Gable of Palmerton and Norman Sutters of Lehighton, silver; and Connie DiJohn and Joyce Springer of Jim Thorpe, bronze.Slow dance: Mike Freund and Linda Swartz of Palmerton, gold; Barbara Mustacchio and Joe Mustacchio of Lehighton, silver; and Al Fanelli and Betty Fanelli of Jim Thorpe, bronze.Rock 'n' roll: John DiJohn and Connie DiJohn of Jim Thorpe, gold; Linda Bottcher and Linda Daubenspeck of Lehighton, silver; and Pat Gable of Palmerton and Norman Sutters of Lehighton, bronze.
