Job training program to continue

Carbon County is continuing to provide administrative services for four counties of people in need of job training.

On Thursday, the commissioners voted to approve the program year 2015 Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Financial Agreement, commencing July 1 through June 30, 2016, for employment and training and related administrative services between Carbon and Wayne counties.Wayne's maximum payment will not exceed $413,015.Commissioners' Chairman Wayne Nothstein said the program aims to provide job training for people who were laid off and looking for employment but may not have the skills needed.In addition to Wayne County, Carbon County also administers these services in Monroe and Pike counties. Agreements with them have not yet come before the commissioners.In other matters, there will be a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. on July 23 during the regular commissioners meeting to present and receive comments on the submission of a grant application for an Emergency Solutions grant.The commissioners said the grant application is from the Carbon County Action Committee, which is applying for a grant to help with its homelessness program to help people get back on their feet and avoid homelessness.The board also voted on the following items:• Appoint Virginia Compton of Lake Harmony to an unexpired term on the Carbon County Planning Commission. The term is until Dec. 31, 2017.• Approve the employment separation of Jason A. Helmer of Summit Hill as a part-time dispatcher, Communications Center, effective July 9.• Approve the change of status of Sarah E. Modrick of Wescosville from full-time assistant district attorney to full-time assistant public defender, effective Aug. 3.• Approve the district attorney's appointment of Jillian Berger of Albrightsville as a part-time legal secretary, effective July 22.
