Virginia man admits molesting young boy over two-year period

A Virginia man pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Tuesday, admitting he molested a young boy in 2014.

Gerald Allen Blair, 30, of Midlothian, pleaded guilty before Judge Joseph J. Matika to one count of indecent assault, as a misdemeanor two.According to police, Blair inappropriately touched a boy on multiple occasions between 2008 and 2010 when the alleged victim was between 3 and 6 years old.Police said that at the time of the incidents, Blair had been dating the victim's mother, and was often responsible for watching her children while she was at work. The incidents occurred at a home they shared in Weatherly.Police became aware of the allegations after the boy told his father, who reported it in January 2014.Shortly after that the victim told police that Blair would make him and his sisters watch "sex movies." The boy said that Blair would force him to remove his pants and then touch his private area. The victim said in some cases, Blair would lock him in a room and force him to watch the pornographic movies. The boy said that in addition to the sexual episodes there were also multiple incidents where Blair punched him in the head. His mother was interviewed by police about a month after the incidents were reported to police. She admitted that the child told her about Blair hitting him. She said that her children may have asked her for protection from Blair, but that she was under the influence of heroin at the time.Police interviewed Blair in September 2014. He said that he had lived in Weatherly with the mother and her children. He admitted that he would watch pornographic movies at the house but denied the allegations. At the time of his arrest, Blair had to be extradited from Virginia to face the charges.Because the charge falls under the provisions of Megan's Law, Blair will have to undergo an evaluation by the state sexual offenders assessment board to determine if he is a violent sexual offender. If it is determined he is, then he must register for life as a sexual offender. At the present time he faces a 15-year registration period.Matika deferred sentencing until the assessment is completed.
