Palmerton Area Library recognizes trustee

The Palmerton Area Library Association recognized Barbara Eastland on June 1 for her many years of service as a trustee on the library board.

Eastland began her tenure in February 1992 and continued until December 2009, when she felt that it was time to move on to other endeavors.By the end of 2010, Eastland realized that she missed serving as a trustee and was elected to the Board in January 2011. She continued until December 2014 and stayed on as an honorary trustee until December 2015. Over the years, she has served not only as a member of the Palmerton Area Library Association Board of Trustees, but also as its president.During her tenure on the board, Eastland strove to meet the mission of the Palmerton Area Library, which is to provide quality materials and services that fulfill the educational, informational, cultural and recreational needs of the supporting communities. She believed that the library should use emerging computer technologies in order to better assist library staff and patrons. Eastland is responsible for procuring hardware and software that applied to library science.Donald and Mary Behler, founders of the A. Donald and Mary G. Behler Foundation, were on hand for the event.Most recent, the Behlers' contribution was a Mobile Laptop Station consisting of 12 laptop computers, charging cart, wireless printer and related software.The computer hardware and software was donated to honor Barbara Eastland's 23 years of dedicated service as a member and past president of the Palmerton Area Library Board of Trustees.The Behlers dedicated and generous support to the library also enabled Project Inner Space to come to fruition. Not only did they get the project going financially, but also they committed to the financial support for many years after the project's completion.
