Large makes more threats

A former Lansford man already in jail for threatening his ex-wife and calling in a bomb threat to both the home and office of a Carbon County attorney had to be removed from a courtroom after threatening a judge in Vermont.

John R. Large, 51, was arraigned on Wednesday after being taken into custody that day in Orange County for charges on terroristic threats after he told Pennsylvania State Police on Tuesday he was going to make the “Orlando, Florida, attack look small.”Large also faces charges for separate incidents that occurred June 12 and June 13.During his arraignment in Orange County, Wednesday Large had to be removed from the courtroom after he threatened the judge and was causing a scene inside the courtroom.Pennsylvania State Police are working with the Vermont authorities on extradition to transport Large back to Carbon County.The investigation continues.Large is currently incarcerated in the Southeast State Correctional Facility in Windsor, Vermont, on $250,000 bail.On June 12, Large threatened his ex-wife and her parents. He is charged with leaving a dead snake and crow on her property with threatening notes.For that incident, he faces charges of terroristic threats, harassment, and not having permits from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and Pennsylvania Game Commission.On June 13, Large threatened Lehighton State Police with a reference to the Orlando, Florida, attack.For that incident, he faces charges on one count each of terrorism, terroristic threats and harassment.And on Tuesday, Large called in a bomb threat to both the home and office of Palmerton attorney Gerald Strubinger Jr.According to court records, Strubinger represented Large’s ex-wife in a custody hearing.On Tuesday, Vermont State Police were notified that Large was possibly in the state.An emergency ping was generated for his cellphone and it gave the location in Vermont.A joint investigation between Vermont and Pennsylvania State Police showed that Large was staying at an acquaintance’s residence in Washington, Vermont.Vermont State Police located Large at the residence at 185 Turnpike Road, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.The Vermont State Police Tactical Support Unit and the Crisis Negotiations Unit were called and removed the owners of the home.Large was later taken into custody without incident.Large is charged as a fugitive from justice, along with the other charges in Pennsylvania.
