Improve Lehighton

Editor,

I've owned a home on South First Street since October 2004. As I am now retired I have been trying to sell it and move to an apartment to cut down on living costs. It is a shame that I cannot get even what I paid for it nearly 12 years ago.But what compounds the problem of attempting to sell the home is that some renters around me do not seem to teach their children to respect others' properties - which to me constitutes child abuse and neglect and can lead to serious consequences, and the children, with bad attitudes, run through homeowners' yards causing damage as they go. What recourse do I have? How can I have a "For Sale" sign out front and "No Trespassing" signs around my property and expect to sell the house? The "No Trespassing" signs indicate the kind of neighborhood I live in, and who would want to buy a house in such an area? I feel trapped and again I ask, what recourse do I have? What can the borough government do to improve this problem and make Lehighton a viable city and desired place to live in?Answers, please.Scotty MorrisonLehighton
