Nesquehoning man facing charges following chase

A Nesquehoning man is facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence, following a chase as he attempted to flee police.

The suspect was identified as Tony Allen Stoeckel, 30, of 112 E. Garibaldi Ave.According to the affidavit of probable cause, Nesquehoning officer Robert Blisard was parked at the True Value store at 9:58

p.m.May 28 when he saw a yellow motorcycle on Mermon Avenue go into the New Columbus area of the borough.Blisard knew that a similar bike had eluded attempted traffic stops multiple times in the past. Blisard began to follow the bike when he noticed the plate light was out. Blisard then activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop.The driver, later identified as Stoeckel, continued onto Columbus Avenue and accelerated at a high rate of speed as Blisard then activated his siren in an attempt to stop the operator.Stoeckel failed to stop for a stop sign at West Columbus Avenue and Genoa Avenue, turning right onto Genoa. The bike then continued onto Marconi Alley.As Blisard approached and turned onto Marconi, he observed the bike lying on the ground and Stoeckel fleeing. Blisard gave chase and caught up with him and took him into custody.Blisard smelled alcohol on Stoeckel and admitted drinking "a little bit." Blisard took Stoeckel to St. Luke's Miners Campus in Coaldale, where he agreed to a blood test. The test results showed 0.06 BAC and also the presence of a controlled substance.As a result Stoeckel, has been charged with DUI of a controlled substance, DUI of alcohol or a controlled substance, fleeing or attempting to elude police (a felony), and summary offenses of stop signs and yield signs, careless driving, general lighting requirements, driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed and driving under suspension-DUI related.
