A Lansford man faces charges of driving under the influence following a traffic stop in Tamaqua on Jan. 9.

An officer traveling on the Hometown Hill, driving south, noticed a white Dodge Caravan, also headed south. The van was swerving back and forth, crossing the white fog line, then the double yellow centerline. The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as CristhianFernandez-Vargas, 39, of 200 W. Bertsch St., Lansford. Fernandez-Vargas said he was on his way home after visiting family in the Hazleton area.Fernandez-Vargas failed three field sobriety tests and was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center in Pottsville for blood work.Charges are pending the results.
