Slatington seeks solicitor

Slatington Borough is currently facing two board vacancies. A two-year term council seat and the position of solicitor. After 20 years of service, Ed Healy of Steckle and Stopp was not picked up by the borough for the upcoming year.

During the Jan. 4 reorganization meeting, the board voted to not renew Healy for solicitor. Healy will remain the borough's counsel until a proper replacement can be found.Steckle and Stopp has held the job since 1953. The board gave little to no details on the changed in legal counsel.The council seat, formerly held by Joe Wechsler, who was elected this past November to a four-year term, was voted on to be advertised to the public. Interested parties will have 30 days to submit their letters of interest to the borough. According to council President Gwyneth Jones, the board has a few ideas of who will fill the appointed seat.The borough accepted new contracts for 2016 maintenance regarding the sewer plant and sludge hauler. Envirep TLC submitted its annual service agreement for the primary sludge transfer, trickling filter, recirculation and backwash sludge pump upkeep. The $2,100 amount will include all six pumps.Biros was the low bidder for sludge hauling, gaining a three-year contract with the borough for $8.98 per gallon of sludge hauled.The water plant furnace will be repaired this year at a cost of $6,800. Kromer Pulmbing, Heating and Air submitted the lowest quote winning the job.
