Kemmerer picks Sacred Heart

Zach Kemmerer has both a passion for wrestling and the field of business.

Those interests helped the Lehighton wrestler select Division 1 Sacred Heart as his destination to continue his academic and athletic careers."I focused on three schools that I was strongly considering, but Sacred Heart seemed to separate itself from the other two," explained Kemmerer of his college choice. "It seems like everyone is there to make each other better."I always knew that I wanted to be a business major. I've been in FBLA four years and through middle school, and that's what they're known for (business). They have a brand new school of business there, it's the first year that it's in operation. It's such a modern university, all of the buildings are nice and elaborate. All of the professors have at least 20 years of workplace experience and everyone there wants to make you better."As far as wrestling is concerned, Kemmerer acknowledged that he always had great technique on the mat, but admitted that he needed to develop more of something else."You can be as good as you want to be technique-wise, but if you don't think you're good and don't apply it on the mat, it's not going to show. Going in the room and grinding with teammates really switches certain gears in your head, and it's all good from there."Kemmerer noted that he endured some great training along the way from some of his idols."My number one influence is Jack Cuvo, who was my coach from kindergarten until sixth grade," explained the Sacred Heart commit. "He was NCAA Dividion I champion at East Stroudsburg. After that, I was doing privates with Jeff Ecklof from Northampton, who was two-time All-American at Oklahoma."The Lehighton senior is now polished with the smarts, confidence, and all of the skills necessary to excel at the next level. Lehighton head coach Danny Williams enjoyed helping and watching it all come together."To be a coach of kids like that, you're lucky," he explained. "It makes your job a heck of a lot easier. He's built on his ability to go out and be a buzz saw over the past four years. Now, he's just scoring, scoring, and scoring. It's been a nice thing to see him evolve over that time."Kemmerer already accomplished one of his dreams, now he's off to tackle another."When I was in first grade, I went to a Lehighton wrestling match. Since I was eight years old, my goal was a Division 1 scholarship. Come November when they offered me one, it was crazy to think that it actually came true. It was a surreal feeling to be honest. Next, my overall gaol is to be a Division 1 All-American."
