Jim Thorpe board member honored

Clement McGinley was presented with the Pennsylvania School Board Association's Honor Roll of School Board Service on Monday.

Superintendent Brian Gasper read a speech to explain the legacy of school board service, as well as the qualities exhibited by McGinley in his time on the board."The honor roll is the association's way of saying 'thank you' to those individuals who exemplify leadership and statesmanship, giving unselfishly of their time and talents for the future of public schools, and putting something back into their local communities with the guidance and education of our youth," Gasper said. With a mass of applause, Gasper presented McGinley with a certificate to commemorate the occasion."It doesn't feel like it's been that long, honestly. Time goes by so fast," McGinley said.He was happy to point out the successes of the school board over the past few years, of which he was a significant part. With numerous improvements to the financial status of the district, along with changes to curriculum such as the recent distribution of personal computers to students, McGinley's participation on the board has made a significant impact along the way.McGinley was quite humble of such improvements, however, attributing the success to the district as a whole."Our administration and our teachers do a fabulous job, they're always looking at ways to improve the curriculum," McGinley said."The school board is more than willing to support whatever they need to improve the curriculum for our students."
