Palmerton couple faces charges

A Carbon County man faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of children.

Chad Derr, 39, of Palmerton, is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Sept. 28 before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by patrolman Shawn Leadbetter of the Palmerton Police Department:At 11:53 p.m. July 3, Leadbetter was on patrol in the 400 block of Alley G in the borough when he saw a woman and young child sitting on a concrete barrier between Palmerton Telephone and the Hunan House Chinese restaurant, and two bicycles next to the woman and child were causing an obstruction for carstrying to pass through in the alley.The woman was identified as Jaclyn Derr, 35, of Palmerton, and the child washer daughter.Leadbetter asked Jaclyn Derr why she was out so late with her daughter in a dark back alley. She said she was just on a bicycle.She then said she was waiting for her husband, Chad, to come out of a house on Franklin Avenue, but she didn't say what he was doing and how long she had been waiting.Leadbetter saw a man heknew through a past incident as Chad exit through two detached garages into Alley G.Sgt. Chris Ritter made contact with Chad Derr, who looked startled.As Leadbetter continued to speak with Jaclyn Derr, Rittersearched Chad Derr and found four baggies of a white substance, which tested positive for crystal methamphetamine.Jaclyn Derr consented to a search and police found a clearsmoking device with burned brown residue inside in her purse.Jaclyn admitted that she had smoked marijuanaearlier.Jaclyn was possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of children.Chad Derr also had an outstanding warrant for domestic relations in Lehigh County.
