Carbon approves bridge easement

Carbon County commissioners took another step forward last week on a planned pedestrian bridge in Jim Thorpe.

The board executed a $9,500 temporary easement agreement with Casawn Partners of Jim Thorpe, for access to build the steel pedestrian bridge crossing the Lehigh River.The agreement, which replaces one approved in March, will be in place for two years after approval by the state Department of Transportation.The bridge is part of a D&L Heritage Corridor trails project.Earlier this month, commissioners approved a license agreement and temporary license agreement with Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad for a private grade crossing and entry on railroad property for the bridge.Also on Thursday, commissioners:•Adopted a $37,233 local match certification resolution to keep the Transportation System/LANTA buses rolling.•Accepted the resignation of Glenn Wagner Sr. of Lansford, from the county Housing Authority, and appointed Lisa Vignone of Palmerton, to replace him until Dec. 31, 2019.•Agreed to allow the Area Agency on Aging to terminate its contract with Caring Senior Service, Stroudsburg, due to the small number of clients.•Executed an easement agreement with Bio-Haz Solutions, Nesquehoning.•Agreed to seek an increase in the administrative fee the county gets to handle the Hotel Tax to 4 percent from the current 2 percent.The county earned $9,855 from the fee last year.
