Lansford plans block party

Not only is it a cost-effective event for families, but it's also known for its easygoing atmosphere.

Those are only a few reasons why the community block party at Grace Community Church in Lansford has been such a big hit over the years. That positive trend will continue this year during the eighth annual block party, which will run from 12:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday. There will also be an outside worship service at 11 a.m., according to the Rev. Jeremy Benack.Benack said the block party will feature live Christian bands, food, bounce houses, games, crafts, face painting, basket raffles and a Chinese auction. Also, Friends of the Lansford Pool will be on hand to raise money for the Lansford pool, he said."We really want to have a family-friendly event, and we keep all the prices really cheap," Benack said. "We really want to promote a good environment for families to be able to come and get to know people within the church and let people know that we are here."Benack said he believes the location of the block party in the middle of Lansford's business district is key to its success."They enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, and they enjoy the fact that it's family-friendly," he said. "And, we have a lot of different things for kids to do."
