Schuylkill attendant fights back, foils robbery attempt

An attendant at a Schuylkill County service station fought back when a man attempted to rob the business and foiled the robbery attempt.

State police at Frackville said the incident occurred at the Gas Way station located at 1471 Route 61 in New Castle Township, just north of Saint Clair, at 6:54 p.m. on Saturday.Troopers said a suspect approached the attendant, a 43-year-old man, and told him the restroom needed to be cleaned up. The attendant approached the restroom at which time the suspect got into a physical alteration with the attendant.The suspect assaulted the attendant by striking him in the arms and hands with a pellet gun. The attendant fought back and ran away from the suspect, retreating to the interior of the gas station.The suspect followed at which point the attendant grabbed a baseball bat and chased the suspect. The suspect threw a knife at the attendant and then fled the station without any cash or items.The suspect ran into a wooded area behind the station and south towards Saint Clair. Troopers said several area police departments assisted in searching the area but the suspect was not found. The attendant had minor abrasions on his hands and arms.The suspect was described as being a white man, in his late teens or early 20s, about 5-feet, 7-inches call, thin build, wearing a black hood, tan khaki pants, black cap with flat brim, sneakers and sunglasses.Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at 570-874-5300.
