Red flag warning today

With numerous brush fires already occurring around the area this spring, and windy, dry conditions forecast for Tuesday, the National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the entire Times News coverage area.

The watch is in effect from noon-8 p.m.During the red flag warning time period, low relative humidity, windy conditions and an abundance of dry fuel are expected to occur. Winds will be between 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph during the afternoon and early evening hours.Red flag warnings mean that there are "critical fire weather conditions expected" and "any fires that develop may quickly get out of control and become difficult to contain."Outdoor burning is not recommended today.As of this morning, burn bans currently in effect in Carbon County include Lower Towamensing Township, Bowmanstown, Mahoning Township, Parryville, Jim Thorpe, Penn Forest Township, Nesquehoning and Summit Hill.According to the Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency, no municipal burn bans are in effect; while the Monroe County 911 Communications Center said that the county does not gather municipal burn ban information.Correspondent Chris Parker contributed to this story.
