Summit Hill inductees are Lawrence, Evans, Bonner

The Carbon County Hall of Fame banquet will be held Sunday, May 29 at Memorial Hall in Jim Thorpe. The doors will open at 1 p.m.

The deadline for tickets is May 8.Following are members of the 2016 Summit Hill Hall of Fame class.TREVOR LAWRENCE JR.Trevor Lawrence Jr. is the son of Trevor Sr. and Jacqueline of Summit Hill. Trev is a 1985 graduate of Marian Catholic High School. He transferred from Panther Valley following his freshman year and earned three letters in football, four letters in baseball, and two letters in basketball with the Colts.Lawrence's hitting and strong arm allowed him to be a four-year starter on the diamond as a pitcher and third baseman. He led his team in batting average (.360) during his sophomore year and was the fifth-best among the Carbon/PV area in doubles and triples. He was a team captain his senior season when the Colts were Schuylkill League Division 2 Champions in 1984.Lawrence was a three-year two-way starter on the gridiron as a defensive end and linebacker. Lawrence's one-handed catches, ability to run after the catch, and nose for the football allowed him to earn numerous postseason awards: Sophomore All-County Honorable Mention Tight End, Junior All-County First Team Tight End and Defensive End, Standard Speaker All-Area First Team Linebacker, Associated Press All-State Honorable Mention Tight End and Defensive End, and the Big 33 Watch List. He played one season at the University of Delaware.Lawrence took his knowledge and experience into the world of coaching after his playing days. He served as an assistant coach at Panther Valley for six years, as well as a Marian assistant for 13 years. Lawrence has assisted for many years for Lansford Little League, Franklin Township Little League, and Babe Ruth Baseball. Trev Jr. is most honored and proud of his four sons: T.J. III, Casey, Jayse, and Dominic.DAVID (DD) EVANSDavid (DD) Evans is a 1975 graduate of Panther Valley High School. Athletically he was two-year starter in football and basketball. He broke the school's single game rushing record of 245 yards in one game. On the basketball floor, Evans won all-league honors where he was recognized as the No. 1 defensive player in the league for two seasons, always drawing the assignment of the opponents top scorer. Panther Valley won the District 11 championship in his junior year and was the District 11 runner up in his senior year. The Panthers were the underdogs in almost all of the games that they played. PV defeated No. 1 seeded Marian in the post season and many people will never forget that game. The Panthers also topped Blue Mountain three time sin that season, which included a dramatic come-from-behind last second shot which stunned everyone in the District Championship game.After graduation, Evans attended the United States Naval Academy. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps.Dave currently works in Washington D.C. as a logistics manager in the federal government. He resides in Woodbridge with his wife, Somwang and his children Erin, Matthew and Sandy.TOM BONNERTom is a 1967 graduate of Marian Catholic High School. Bonner played three years of football, four years of basketball, and was on the track team all four years. He set the football team's record for most points in a season during his senior campaign with 72. Tom also set the school record in the 100-yard dash on the track.Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army in January of 1969 and was Honorably Discharged in 1971. He was an E-4 rank.Bonner then graduated from Kutztown University in 1975 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. His teaching career started in the same year at St. Joseph Parochial in Summit Hill. He taught at Tamaqua Elementary and Middle School for 29 years.Bonner has had an extensive coaching career as well. He was head football coach at Tamaqua for eight years and head coach at Panther Valley for five years. In addition he spent a combined 17 years as a football assistant coach at Marian, Tamaqua, Panther Valley and Blue Mountain. He also has 28 years experience as a track and field coach, 25 of those years at Tamaqua.The highlights of Bonner's football coaching career were:* Tamaqua - 1984 Eastern Conference Southern Division football championship and Eastern Final berth* Panther Valley - 1988 District 11 Class AA championship* Panther Valley - 1989 Eastern Conference Class 2 Southern Division title* Panther Valley - 1991 Anthracite and Eastern Conference Division championship* Panther Valley - 1992 Eastern Conference Southern Division 1 playoff qualifierBonner was named the 1984 Reading Eagle and Hazleton Standard Speaker Coach of the Year and also the 1988 Schuylkill County Coaches Association Coach of the Year.In addition, Bonner received the Panther Valley Irish-American Association Shamrock Award in 2013; and was inducted into the Schuylkill County Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2014.Tom is the son of James and Loretta Bonner and the grandson of 1996 Hall of Fame Recipient Paddy Bonner. He is married to his wife Susan. Bonner has two sons, Tommy and Michael, and a step son Joey. He also has three grandchildren.
