Weekend celebration

The dedication program of the Lehighton Fire Department at 6 p.m. Friday will include dedicating a new fire station, pumper and rescue boat.Preceding the dedication will be an open house at 5 p.m.Lehighton Fire Department will kick off Fire Prevention Week with a parade, festival and related activities on Sunday as part of a dedication weekend.• The parade will begin at 1 p.m. at the Lehighton Community Grove. It will end at the Community Grove. The route starts on South Eighth Street, to Mahoning Street, to Third Street, past the fire station to Iron Street and then to the Community Grove where it will disband.• Bands performing include: the City of Bethlehem Bagpipe Band, Lehighton Area High School Marching Band, Blue Eagles Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps, Allentown Hobo Almost Marching Band, Celtic United Pipes & Drums, and Palmerton High School Marching Band.• The Lehighton Fire Department and American Hose Company of Tamaqua will be among marching units. So will the Panther Valley JROTC.• At the Community Grove, the Mahoning Fire Department will have its fire extinguisher trainer for children, the Lansford Fire Department will have a bounce house, Smokey Bear will be present, Albrightsville Fire Department will bring its safety trailer and the Carbon County 911 Center will have a trailer to educate children the proper way to report and emergency.• Antique fire apparatus will be displayed by the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society and by private collectors.• Children’s posters will be displayed, with the theme “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep.”• A beer garden will be manned by members of Lehighton VFW Post 256.
