Four Times News area volleyball teams gain wins

Four local volleyball teams earned wins in scholastic action Thursday.

In addition to the victories by Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Marian and Panther Valley, all three Times News area tennis teams posted wins.VOLLEYBALLJim Thorpe-CatasauquaJim Thorpe continued its strong play, defeating Catasauqua 3-0 in non-league competition by scores of 25-11, 25-6, and 25-8.Jillian Peterson led Thorpe with six kills, while Mackenzie Rosenberger and Jordan Waselus each had three kills apiece.Erin Shigo added nine aces for the Olympians and Kelsey Carroll chipped in with 11 assists and six aces.Lehighton-Lourdes RegionalLehighton swept Lourdes in a Schuylkill League contest, 25-13, 25-10, 25-21.Alyssa Jordan led the Lady Indians with 10 kills and four digs. Katie Higgins added 12 digs, nine kills and eight aces, while Tori Edes-Rodriguez had 18 assists and three kills.Blue Mountain-MarianMarian earned a Schuylkill League victory over Blue Mountain, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17.Abigail Stankiewitch recorded 17 kills for the Fillies. Jasmine Mooney added 15 digs and 10 kills. Courtney McCall had 21 digs, while Gianna Agosti posted 17 digs and Maureen Kloap had 15 digs and 12 kills.Saucon Vy.-NorthwesternSaucon Valley was able to pick up a Colonial league victory over Northwestern, sweeping the Tigers 3-0.The Panthers defeated the Tigers 25-22, 25-17, and 25-7.Tamaqua-Panther ValleyPanther Valley picked up a 25-11, 25-18, 25-15 victory over Tamaqua in a Schuylkill League Division I contest.Jamey Mikovich had a monster game for the Lady Panthers, recording 18 kills, 13 digs, eight service points, three assists and two blocks. Kelsey VanHorn had 14 assists and five kills, and Cassidy Ryan added six service points and five kills.Mackenzie McVicker led the Lady Raiders with 11 blocks, while Alexis Baddick added four blocks, two digs and two kills. Panther Valley also won the JV game, 25-1, 25-8.Nazareth-Pleasant ValleyPleasant Valley dropped an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match to Nazareth, 25-18, 25-16, 25-15.Sofia Janax had 15 assists and eight digs for the Lady Bears (11-3-2, 5-2 EPC).
