Forecast drowns out some trick-or-treat nights

Many municipalities that scheduled trick-or-treating for Wednesday have postponed the evening for ghouls and goblins in preparation of a large rain event moving into the area late tonight.

The following trick-or-treat nights have been changed to 6-8 p.m. Saturday: Bowmanstown, Franklin Township, Lehighton, Palmerton, Parryville, Weissport.Jim Thorpe will have trick-or-treat from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday.Trick or Treat night for Slatington, Walnutport, and Washington Township has been rescheduled from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.Tom Kines, senior meteorologist with AccuWeather, said that a large storm system moving through the region will bring anywhere between 1 and 2 inches of rain before moving east Wednesday night.“Tomorrow is going to be a lot of rain and probably very windy as well,” he said, adding that there may be some localized flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.“Since it has been fairly dry over the last few weeks, I don’t think it will be a big problem for most creeks, but if you live near one that typically gives you problems in heavy rain, then beware,” he said. “In general, it is more of sewer drains will be a problem because of the leaves and debris that may block them.”The rain is expected to move in late tonight, meaning that the annual Tamaqua Halloween parade should be dry as it weaves its way down Broad Street, beginning at 7 p.m.The storm should leave the coverage area wet most of the day Wednesday before tapering off Wednesday night.Kines said Thursday will be a much better day as the sun returns, but it will be windy with highs in the 60s.Saturday is looking like it will be a nice, but chilly evening for trick or treating with temperatures in the low 50s to high 40s and cloudy skies.
