An estimated $10,740 of a large $25,000 medical bill has been raised for Brody Keefe, a Pleasant Valley High School student and regionals wrestler, who was recently diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia.

The gofundme campaign was created by close friend Mack van Schouwenburg on Sept. 19. Keefe was scheduled to return home Friday from Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest campus where he was undergoing treatment for a large mass that was found in his chest.An update was posted to the gofundme page Friday morning by Schouwenburg, "I finally saw him on Tuesday, and he was doing great. The doctors had told him that the mass in his chest was almost completely gone, and that he would be able to go home early. Today was his 19th day of chemo and he was told that he can go home. They even told him that he had set the record for going home the earliest out of anyone who had gone through chemotherapy. He's a fighter and leukemia doesn't stand a chance against him."The page is filled with positive comments from family, classmates and even complete strangers who have been touched by Keefe's story.The bio written for Keefe by Schouwenburg paints a picture of a strong young man who will win this life threatening battle.John Gilbert left this comment on the gofundme page, "Brody, I am so sorry to hear this. Fortunately cancer messed with the wrong guy. You will beat this by being strong and staying positive. Basically by being yourself."Schouwenburg posted to the page, "Brody is a fighter and if there's anybody that can make it through something like this it's him.The financial cost of the treatment will be immense on his family.Any contribution will be a great help. Brody does not deserve to have this happening to him, but it is and it is not what happens in our life that defines us, but it is how we handle it that does."Pleasant Valley High School Principal John Gress said that many of the staff and students have already opened their hearts and their pockets to the Keefe family in an effort to help with the medical costs.A benefit for Brody will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at The Family Café, located on Route 115 across from the Pleasant Valley Middle School.A BBQ/Pasta dinner will be held.
