A Berks County driver is facing multiple charges following a chase involving state police at Schuylkill Haven.

About 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, troopers attempted to stop a 2007 Saab 9-7X sports utility vehicle along W. Main St., in Fleetwood, Berks County, for a traffic violation. The driver pulled into a lot at a Turkey Hill mart, then immediately sped away west on Main St., into Richmond Township.The chase only lasted about a half mile but speeds reached 75 miles-per-hour, troopers said. Upon stopping the vehicle the driver threatened a physical confrontation with arresting officers. He continued to physically resist arrest after being handcuffed.The driver was identified as John W. Gilbert, 42, of Blandon. He was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest, reckless driving, speeding and roadways laned for traffic.
