Cancer Society's daffodil campaign begins

Daffodil Day Sales for the 2015 Northeast Pa. and Greater Lehigh Daffodil Campaign to Fight Cancer are underway.

Event organizer Lisa Hiles said the volunteers who organized the 2015 Daffodil Campaign are the same volunteers who have produced the annual American Cancer Society Telethon for 36 years.Many have volunteered for the Carbon-Tamaqua Unit for decades, and many are the same people who made the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days campaign such a successful tradition in the area, Hiles said.She said the group is excited the telethon and daffodil committees have joined forces to help ACS defeat cancer.Hiles said special thanks go out to event sponsors BTM Incorporated Industrial Precision Machining Specialist, van Hoekelen Greenhouses, Guys Flowers and Hiles Bros. Companies."I feel very proud to be part of this campaign because it is a community effort that brings people together to fight such a horrible disease," Hiles said. "And I hope in my lifetime that we no longer need to have this fundraiser because the threat of cancer has been eliminated."Remaining Daffodil Day Direct Sale Sites for the Carbon-Tamaqua American Cancer Society are Redner's in Nesquehoning from noon to 6:30 p.m. Friday, and Boyer's in McAdoo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.Hiles said a Chinese Auction fundraiser will be this Sunday at the Lakeside Ballroom on Route 54 in Barnesville.The 36th annual American Cancer Society Telethon will be held at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe April 11-12.Anyone with daffodil questions may call Lisa Hiles at 570-645-8405.For more information, contact the group at the volunteer office at 570-805-5432, 570-805-4554, or on the web at www.Cancer-Telethon.org.
