Icy patches cause crashes

Icy patches on Route 902 between Summit Hill and White Bear caused two minor crashes Friday morning. No one was hurt, but both cars had to be towed.

Summit Hill Police Chief Joseph Fittos said the first happened at 6:40 a.m. when a car driven west by Richard Achey, 30, 421 E. Abbott St., Lansford hit a patch of ice from water runoff, went off the road and struck a boulder.

The second crash happened at 7:31 a.m., about 80-100 feet from the first one. A car driven by Regina Marzen, 22, of 300 Carnation Lane, Lehighton, hit an icy patch went off the road and hit the embankment and boulder.

In both cases, the state Department of Transportation treated the road, Fittos said.
