Marian students receive awards

Sister Bernard Agnes, IHM, principal, at Marian Catholic has announced that three students received awards during the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State Competition, held at Penn State University Park.

Robert Valente, Marian Catholic Science teacher and Lorraine Piehota, retired Bishop Hafey science instructor, were sponsors. Valente accompanied the students and served as a judge.Chaperone was Renee Srinivasan.Ryan Darrough, a senior, took first place with two behavioral psychologyprojects and the Pennsylvania Science Talent Search award. He received an $8,000 scholarship to the Penn State University Park Eberly College of Science and plans to attend Penn State.He is the son of David and Colette Darrough of Sugarloaf.Patrick Darrough, a sophomore, took second place in the biology category. He is the son of David and Collette Darrough of Sugarloaf.Henry Hinchey, a sophomore, took second place in the chemistry category. He is the son of Bill and Maureen Hinchey of Slatington.
