Pocono Foundation awards grants

The Pocono Health Foundation recently awarded more than $100,000 to various community organizations and students.

The presentation of these awards was part of PHF's 23rd annual grant reception, which was held at the Hughes Cancer Center at Pocono Medical Center located in East Stroudsburg.Jeff Snyder, president and CEO of Pocono Medical Center, said, "For over 23 years, our foundation has partnered with area organizations to help them assist the families of our community while also providing financial support to help educate our future healthcare professionals."This year, as part of our celebration of serving the community for over 100 years, we increased our community grants and scholarships."The 16 Monroe County community organizations that were honored through the generosity of the Dr. Alberta Finch Children's Health Endowment Fund and the Dr. Claus G. Jordan Endowment Fund: American Red Cross, CAME Food Pantry, Center for Vision Loss, Crossroads - Street 2 Feet, Development Education Services, Garden of Giving Inc., Make-A-Wish Foundation, Monroe County Habitat for Humanity, Planned Parenthood-Keystone, Pocono Alliance Inc., Pocono Area Transitional Housing, Pocono Family YMCA, Pocono Services for Families and Children, The Salvation Army, Women's Resources of Monroe County Inc. and Youth Infusion Inc.As a result of the R. Dale Hughes Nursing Scholarship Endowment, Jennie Cramer Memorial Nursing Scholarship, Robert A. Gordon Memorial Nursing Scholarship, Dr. Elmo J. Lilli Healthcare Scholarship, and the Sean P. Memorial Scholarship Endowment the following students from northeastern Pennsylvania schools received scholarships: Morgan Stettler, $8,000; Kaitlin Lees, $5,000; Christine Begley, $3,000; Janine Scott, $3,000; and Shirl Hortzog-Hargrove, $5,000.In addition to these grants and scholarships, two PMC physicians received grants from the William B. Cramer Medical Staff Equipment Endowment to enhance the medical services provided to the community.
