CCEDC plans annual HALO mixer

Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corporation is partnering with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce and the LGBT Business Council to raise money and awareness for the Carbon County Special Olympics.

On Aug. 6, the Asa and Harry Packer mansions in Jim Thorpe will be transformed into an area to socialize, meet new people, network and raise awareness during CCEDC's fourth annual HALO mixer, sponsored by Bennett Automotive Group. The evening begins at 5:30 at the mansions, located at 19 Packer Ave., and runs until 7:30.Marlyn Kissner, executive director of the chamber, said this event is bridging business with the LGBT community, while helping the special needs children in the county."We're offering an avenue for the community to come out and meet chamber members and businesses and see what it is all about," she said. "We are also showcasing Mansion Hill and the history this area has to offer."The cost for the event is $5 per person, with all proceeds going to the Carbon County Special Olympics. There will also be a signature drink, the "Blazing Dream Cosmo," available for purchase at the Harry Packer Mansion. A portion of the proceeds from the drink will also go to Special Olympics.Kissner said the Asa Packer and Harry Packer mansions will be open for tours and there will be food, music and wine tastings from local winery Galen Glen.In addition, there will be local art and information about how to get involved and help Carbon County Special Olympics available.Some businesses in downtown Jim Thorpe are also planning on staying open late that evening to provide additional opportunities to showcase what the area has to offer.To register for the event, visit
