Fire destroys Packer Township home

Fire ripped through and destroyed a single-family home on Thursday morning in Packer Township.

The home of Robert and Cynthia Yurchak, 917 Railroad Drive, erupted into flames around 7:30, beckoning firefighters from three counties. Both Yurchaks are attorneys in Carbon County and lived at the residence with their three children. The home is only about three years old, officials said.No one was injured.It appeared the fire started in the basement of the home and spread to the first floor and then to the roof.The fire was contained in about 15-20 minutes, Weston said.Weston said firefighters remained at the scene for hours and a state police fire marshal was summoned to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.In addition to the Weatherly firefighters, volunteer firefighters from the L&L, Beaver Meadows, Tresckow, White Haven, Freeland, Hazle Township, McAdoo, Quakake, Hometown, Harwood, Foster Township and Valley Regional companies responded, while Nesquehoning firemen were put on standby in Weatherly in the event there was another fire in the area.
