Officials approve contracts

With the sale of the county nursing home, Rest Haven, growing closer to finalization, Schuylkill commissioners approved addenda to contracts with service providers through Sept. 1.

That's when the sale of Rest Haven to Investment 360 of Lakewood, New Jersey, is expected to be finalized. The county last month signed a letter of intent to sell the home to the firm for $10.9 million. The county is selling Rest Haven because the county had to continually use money from its general fund to help the home make ends meet. The first contract is with Service Access Management for continued management services. The monthly contract management fee is set at $52,162.That reflects about an $8,000 reduction from the previous cost, said County Administrator Mark Scarbinsky.Other contracts are with Concept Medical, increasing the amount by $100,000; JML Medical, increasing the amount by $7,000; McKesson Medical, increasing the amount by $20,000; and Manheim Medical, increasing the amount by $25,000.Commissioners on Aug. 20, 2014, decided to sell Rest Haven after learning the home, behind the Penn State campus along Route 61 in Schuylkill Haven, was running $4.6 million in the red.
