Another ineffective property tax plan

Dear Editor,

Two days after being sworn in, Dave Reed, our new house majority leader, sent out a co-sponsorship memorandum outlining yet another school property tax "relief" scheme (I mean plan).I have to hand it to Dave, he didn't waste any time forgetting about the constitution of Pennsylvania that he swore to uphold and defend. In particular, I am referring to Article 1, Section 1, which states "All men are born equally free and independent and have certain inherent and indefeasible rights, among which are those of enjoying and defending life and liberty of acquiring, possessing and protecting property and reputation, and of pursuing their own happiness. His plan increases both the personal income and sales taxes and empowers school districts to levy an earned income, mercantile, and/or business privilege tax, relief via tax increases with absolutely no cost controls whatsoever.Any relief given will be outstripped by school property tax increases. Most of all, if Mr. Reed believed in the oath he took, he would realize that his proposal does nothing to address the problem of families losing their homes because of school property taxes. His proposal goes against the very essence of inherent property rights.Joe KosalkoSummit Hill
