Marian Open House slated

The 24th Annual Open House program for prospective Marian High School students and their parents will be held Sunday, with registration beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the school. This open house is offered to students in grades nine through 12, from Carbon, Luzerne and Schuylkill counties interested in attending Marian for the upcoming school year.

Grade schools that feed into Marian High School will also hold open houses for prospective students: St. Jerome Regional School, Tamaqua, Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Our Lady of the Angels Academy, Lansford, Sunday, from noon to 2 p.m.; St. Joseph Regional Academy, Jim Thorpe, Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Holy Family Academy, Hazleton, Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m.; St. John Neumann School, Monday, Jan. 26, at both Palmerton and Slatington campuses from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Trinity Academy, Shenandoah, Feb. 23, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Registrations will be taken all week at each of the schools.As part of the school's 2015 Catholic Schools Week celebration at Marian, the program will begin with information exhibits. There will be booths showing various activities, clubs and organizations. Individual subject areas will also be set up with presentations, and tours will be conducted. Refreshments will also be served. This is an opportunity for interested families to gain information about educational opportunities at Marian.The formal part of the program will begin at 1 p.m. and conclude with door prize drawings, including a top prize of $500 toward tuition at the school for the 2015-2016 or the 2016-2017 school year. This drawing is available for any student entering the freshman year in the respective school years. Participants must be present to win.For more information on all schools, contact the Marian Development & Alumni Office at 570-467-0641.The theme for the Catholic Schools Week is "Catholic Schools Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service," and festivities will continue all week.Marian High School's Catholic Schools Week activities will also include:Monday: dress down day, barrel placed for socks, gloves, scarves for Catholic Social Services.Tuesday: talent show.Wednesday: special Mass with Bishop Barres and Ice Cream Sundae day.Thursday: red, white and blue shirt day, guest speaker Susan Koomar on the "Gift of Life."Friday: pep rally, breakfast for faculty, staff and adminstration, SADD mini missions, barrel collection awards.Formed in 1954, Marian Catholic had a unique, three town campus (Tamaqua, Coaldale and Lansford) for 10 years, until the current facility was built on farmland in Rush Township in 1964.The nickname of the school's boy's sports teams, Colts, represents the towns from which it drew students, with the C for Coaldale, L for Lansford, T for Tamaqua and S for Summit Hill. The O represents Other communities that sent students to Marian.Marian serves students from parishes both Roman and Byzantine in eastern Schuylkill and Carbon counties and Luzerne County, while extending a welcome to students of other faiths.There will also be two informational sessions held at the school on Monday, Feb. 9, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and Monday, June 15, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for any parents and/or students who would like more information.
