Heritage Hill man celebrates 94 years

Walter Woods, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, is celebrating his 94th birthday.

Born in Patterson, New Jersey, on Jan. 17, he was the son of the late Walter Woods and Jean Johnson.He graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1939 and enlisted in the Air Corps. He served as a pilot during World War II and received a number of combat medals including: American Theater Medal, Air Medal with 3 Oak Clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal and Good Conduct Medal.He married Winifred "Winkie" Mulhern on Nov. 12, 1994, and they are still happily married. Before moving to Heritage Hill the couple traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad.Walter has two children: Walter Jr., who is deceased, and April Harris, who lives in Danville.He has two stepsons: Thomas Learn of Palmyra, New York, and William Learn of North Carolina.He has six grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.Walter was a member of the American Legion and is still a member of the Masons. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and baseball.
