Customer service speaks volumes

All of us experience customer service at some level; whether it is checking out at the grocery store, purchasing a new stove or picking out a special gift for a friend.

Isn't it nice when you immediately get a warm smile with the question "How can I help you today?"Then there is the flip side when you walk in to a store and are not acknowledged or if you are, it is with a sour-not-so-enthusiastic greeting. This is very difficult for me to accept and many times I want to give the person tips on the importance of first impressions … and sometimes when the situation is just right, I do!People like to hear feedback, let's say constructive criticism that will ultimately help them with the next situation.Think about the times you have an awesome experience when being served or purchasing an item … you will be sure to return and even share the great customer service you received with a friend or family member. This, in turn, will bring the business more customers … simply by being nice. While on my professional career journey I attended a Dale Carnegie seminar and also read the book "How to Win Friends and Influence People" (a few times!).To this day, I reflect on quotes and statements in the book that help guide me through challenging situations. I also share with others: "Act enthusiastic and you will be enthusiastic," "Do not criticize, condemn or complain" and "Create happiness for others."Keep all of this in mind when you are working and in all of life's situations. In my position, I have the great opportunity to work with a number people who represent various organizations and businesses across the board. I witness great customer service qualities when working with our members, and when I do I make sure I share my positive feedback. So think about this many of us are in a position to deliver great quality customer service to strengthen our business or the business we represent, so being nice and positive will keep people coming back! Please think about this even when you are having a bad day … do not let it reflect on the way you greet people. Smile, extend a good handshake, make eye contact and welcome your customers with care. Go above and beyond the call of duty by taking an extra step to help someone. It will actually make you feel good about yourself. If this is difficult for you, maybe you are in the wrong business an unhappy employee does not make for great quality customer service. Be true to yourself, and to your employer.Enter the New Year with many smiles, be helpful and happy … for yourself, your business and most importantly … for your customers!
