Late pin gives Crimson Tide 33-31 victory over Indians

Both sides matched up closely and both teams knew that the outcome would come down to a couple points in either direction. It proved to pan out in that exact manner as Pottsville came from behind and snuck out a 33-31 win iver Lehighton.

Following a Tegan Durishin decision at 138, the Tribe had a 31-21 lead with two bouts remaining. However, the Indians knew that they would have a forfeit in the 152-pound bout. That lit the pressure cooker for the 145-pound match-up between Tide freshman Cole Painter and Lehighton's Dylan Schock, a first-year wrestler. After a scoreless first period, Painter struck first with an escape and a takedown that caught Schock off-balance. Painter utilized the motion of Schock's fall to eventually pin his opponent in 3:51."He's been working so hard for the past 18 months," said Pottsville head coach Gary Keener. "He has taken his lumps this season and has definitely learned from them, so I'm glad that he pulled that one out because it couldn't have happened to a better kid.""I was just trying to work the score in the match and hopefully get him to his back," said Painter. "But luckily for me, he fell and I got him in a high single. I caught him, and I just needed to finish him off from there."Painter's victory made it 31-27 with one match remaining that Lehighton had to forfeit."They have some younger guys; we have some younger guys," said Keener. "We knew it was going to be a tight match. We left some points on the board and so did they, and we're happy to get the win."Both sides earned seven wins apiece in the match. However, it was the Tide that managed to win the last few and earn some important bonus points."Before the match, we kind of plan out each individual match, and I thought we were where we needed to be," Lehighton head coach Dan Williams said. "There were a couple of different things that could have gone a different way, but there were some matches that we got that we weren't expecting to get. It could have gone either way, but those are the types of matches that you're going to have."Williams and his troop will take the positives from this one and use them to springboard into this weekend as they host the Indian Duals.Victorious Tribe members on the night included Alex Smith and Connor Frey, who both earned pins. Teammate Nate Kemmerer fought for a major decision at 106.
