Polk Township holds reorganizational meeting

There are no personnel changes for Polk Township in 2015. Supervisors Brian Ahner remains as chairman, Michael Hurley, vice chairman and Nancy May as secretary and treasurer of the board. All three are entitled to compensation of $50 per meeting. May says she knows she's entitled to it but does not take the compensation.

Working supervisors Ahner's and May's pays will be determined at an upcoming township auditor's meeting. Currently Ahner receives $21.50 per hour and May receives $20.67 per hour.The board voted to compensate Hurley $100 a day when he attends conventions as a supervisor.Other full-time township employees that received increases are: Gerald Zurat, zoning/codes officer, a $1 increase to $20/hour; Beverly Christman, office assistant, $1.50 increase to $14.50/hour; Ruthanne Toner, office assistant and recording secretary, a $1 increase to $17/hour.The township employees who will receive increases, under the Teamsters union contract at their current pays are: Glenn Green, senior mechanic/road-crew, $21/hour; Harold Touni, road-crew, $19/hour; Dave Novajovsky, road-crew and recycle center, $17.75/hour; Robert Shupp, road-crew $17.75/hour.Part-time positions that were appointed are: Thomas Longyhore Jr. and Jonathan Vazquez, roads and recycle center, $13.50/hour; Ryan Schlogl, roads and recycle center, previously $11.50/hour; Delbert Zacharias, plowing at $17.75/hour as needed; Edward Arnold, plowing, $15.50/hour as needed.Township solicitors that have been reappointed are: James Fareri, counsel to the supervisors at $145/hour; Jerry Hanna, counsel to the Planning Commission, $125/hour; Robert Lear, counsel to zoning hearing board, $150/hour.The following have either been reappointed or reaffirmed for 2015: Engineer-Russell Kresge Jr., $89/hour with reimbursement of expenses and mileage costs; building inspectors John Blick and alternate Jeff Wilkins, $55/hour and use of township vehicle for township business; sewage enforcement officers, Richard Fisher and alternate Dennis Keesler, $60/hour; Perc tests, Gary Borger at $150 per perc test and alternate John Shupp, if he meets all his certificates; PSATS convention voting delegate-Nancy May; delegates to the Monroe County tax collection committee-Beverly Christman and alternate Nancy May; CJERP delegates-Brian Ahner, Albert Barney Jr., Mark Giunta and Richard Courtright Jr. for one year; Vacancy Board chairman, Milton Faust for one year; Uniform Construction Code appeal board, Greg Mackes, Robert Serfass and Dennis Smale, one year, with compensation of $50 per person per hearing on an as-needed basis; zoning hearing board, Georgia Hodyl, three years and alternate Carl Scarscone, one year, Harold Touni, one year left, Thomas Milewski, two years left; Planning Commission, Carl Heckman, four years, Mark Giunta two years left, Al Barney, three years left, Michael Hurley, one year left, Rick Courtright, three years left; West End Community Ambulance, primary emergency responder as per Resolution 2015-01; Barry Borger, emergency management coordinator with a $50 compensation for daytime meetings at the Monroe County Control Center; Billy Tippet as Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company fire chief and William Smith, president; Blanche Strausberger, Connie Haydt and Nancy May, Veterans Memorial Committee; Berkheimer as earned income tax collector at 1.51 percent commission; First Niagra Bank and PLGIT, depositories; Carolyn Meinhart, real estate tax collector at 5 percent commission and will appoint a deputy tax collector with bonding and approval by the board and there will be a yearly real estate tax audit; Delbert Zacharias, Polk Township Nature Park caretaker, compensated $550 for year.The board voted, 3-0 to set bid limits: $19,400 requires advertised and sealed bids; $10,500 requires three telephone quotes.
