Slatington planning community events

The borough of Slatington will be holding several community events in the upcoming months.

First will be the community yard sale on May 9-10.Borough Council recently voted to waive the $10 registration fee and permit requirement.Then, in June, the Running of the Dawgs 5K Run/Fitness Walk and One-Mile Fun Run will be held at the Northern Lehigh Athletic Stadium.After the race, a dog costume contest will be held and an award will be presented for the best dressed dog.The proceeds from this fundraising event will benefit educational enrichment programs within the school district. http://www.nlsdef.org/fundraisers.php)In September, the Slatington Volunteer Fire Department will hold its bike night and car show.The event will be held from noon to 8 p.m. on Main Street (from South Street to Second Street.)The exact date will be announced at a later time.This year the fire department hopes to have a permit for the public consumption of alcohol, to be served by local restaurants and bars.Additionally, the borough will hold three separate bicycle license and registration events. Dates will be announced.Participants will have their bicycles inspected and registered by police officers.Each bicycle will receive a sticker for a $2 fee.This practice will enable the police to better locate lost or stolen bicycles as well as ascertain the safety and maintenance of the bicycle.
