Confused about Medicare?

Part A, Part B, Doughnut holes and premiums.

These are just a few parts that are encompassed in the federal health insurance program known to all seniors as Medicare. But for people nearing age 65, the information about what they will need to enroll in to benefit them throughout their golden years can be overwhelming. That's why New Seasons at Blue Mountain Health System and Carbon County Area Agency on Aging have teamed up to create an educational seminar: "New to Medicare.""The seminar will educate a person turning 65 on how to apply for Medicare; what services Medicare will cover; and how to plan to avoid penalties," said Susan Zeigler, ACM supervisor at Carbon County Area Agency on Aging. "Our goal is to provide basic education of the Medicare system that will assist the consumer in making decisions regarding their Medicare coverage."The program will take place at 1:30 p.m. March 12, at the community room of Blue Mountain Health System's Gnaden Huetten campus, 211 N. 12th St., Lehighton; and at 6 p.m. March 18, at the health system's Bowmanstown Medical Plaza, 512 Bank St., Bowmanstown.Representatives from Area Agency on Aging will provide a general introduction to Medicare, its parts, supplemental insurance medigap policies, advantage plans and drug plans; and answer questions that may be confusing to new participants. The program aims to help anyone entering Medicare for the first time, as well as their caregivers to better understand the comprehensive health care program.Registration is required by calling 610-377-7070.
