High winds, low temperatures coming; outages possible

Valentine's Day may have warmed hearts, but get ready for a deep freeze.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning that high winds and subfreezing temperatures this weekend.A damaging wind event with west to northwest wind gusts around 60 mph is forecast for portions of the Carbon-Monroe-Lehigh-Northampton area late tonight and Sunday.A high wind warning is in effect from midnight to 2 p.m. Sunday, with winds blowing northwest at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. The highest winds should occur between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. If this magnitude of wind occurs, be prepared for power outages. Trees and tree limbs could be knocked down, and minor structural damage to homes is possible.NWS advises people to be prepared. Do not park vehicles where trees can fall on them. Make sure all cell phone and electronic devices are fully charged. If you have a generator, make sure it is working properly and is properly ventilated when in use. Expect bridge restrictions and impact to high profile vehicles. A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
