Lehighton man celebrates 95th birthday

Mark Zern of Lehighton is celebrating his 95th birthday.

He was born in Lehighton on Feb. 6, 1920, and has lived there all his life. He is a 1937 graduate of Lehighton Area High School and a 1948 graduate of Temple University.Between high school and college, Mark served as a medic in the Army during World War II. On July 28, 1946, he married Eleanor Hill, also a Lehighton native.They have enjoyed 68 years of marriage. After college he went on to become a pharmacist eventually purchasing his own pharmacy. Many people would remember the smiling and kind man behind the counter of Zern's Pharmacy.Mark and Eleanor are retired and remain in the home they had built in the 1950s. Mark is an avid baseball fan and Eleanor ran the food pantry at Trinity Lutheran Church for many years.They have two children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
