CCEEC programs

In addition to the Bird Box Building, Carbon County Environmental Education Center has a lot of programs scheduled for the public. They are as follows:

• Creepy Crawlers: 10-11:30 a.m., Feb. 23, March 30, April 13 for 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds. Each session focuses on some aspect of the natural world. Children participate in age-appropriate games, crafts, stories and other activities.• Ranger Rick Club: 1-2:30 p.m., Feb. 15, March 15, April 19 for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Each meeting focuses on some aspect of the natural world. Children participate in age-appropriate games, crafts, stories and other activities.• Let it Snow!: 10 a.m. Feb. 21. Learn some fun things about snow and crystals through crafts and a "snow snack." There is a $5 donation per child for non-CCEEC members and free for members. Pre-registration is a must.• Photography contest: Deadline to drop off photos is March 6. CCEEC's annual photography contest challenges participants to submit their best work. This year's theme is photographs from the outdoors surrounding CCEEC and Mauch Chunk Lake Park. Awards reception 4-6 p.m. March 28. For complete rules, email naturalist Jeannie Carl at

naturalist_eec@yahoo.com.• Tomatoes: From Seed to Table: 10 a.m. to noon March 28. Learn about starting tomato plants from Penn State Master Gardeners. Plant four varieties of seeds to take home. Registration is a must. There is a $5 donation to cover the cost of materials.• A Time to Plant: 1-3 p.m. April 11. Penn State Master Gardeners will provide information on composting, mulching, herbs, companion planting and more. Cost is $8 per person, which includes materials for planting and herb and guided tour of 14 Acre Organic Farm. Call to register.• Wonderful Spring: 10 a.m. April 18 for children age 5-10. Naturalist Jeannie Carl will take participants to the fields and trails to search for plant and animal life that are just waking up after a long winter. Children will participate in a scavenger hunt for signs that signal the arrival of spring. Preregistration is a must. Free for CCEEC members, $5 for nonmembers.• Well Water Testing: 1-3 p.m. April 19. CCEEC is partnering with Keystone Clean Water Team to provide low cost well water testing options for homeowners. Tests may be picked up anytime beginning March 30 and dropped off at CCEEC on April 19 between 1-3 p.m. Tests will be performed on the samples immediately. Other results will be mailed back in two weeks. For complete information, call CCEEC.• Mushroom Club: Spring 2015, dates to be determined.
