Monroe 14-year-old faces extortion charges

A Monroe County teen is facing charges of theft by extortion, transmission of sexually explicit images and solicitation.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said a 14-year-old male from Tobyhanna has been charged and placed in a detention center pending a juvenile court hearing.Police said the arrest was the result of an investigation that began in November 2014 when police were made aware of a female Facebook account that was threatening juvenile males. The Facebook account with the username of "Jessica Carabello," was asking juvenile males for naked photographs of themselves in return for naked pictures of her. Juvenile males that sent a picture were then threatened to send more, and if not, the first picture would be posted online. Other juvenile males were also asked to purchase gift cards and send the numbers to the female account in exchange for naked photographs.Police then obtained a search warrant for the Carabello Facebook account and it was determined that it was a fake account and Jessica Carabello did not exist. Through a further investigation the user of the fake account was found to reside in Tobyhanna.A search warrant executed at the residence where the user was operating the fake account revealed several electronics which contained child pornography. Further investigation revealed that the user of the fake female account was in fact a 14-year-old male. The juvenile was then arrested.Police said their investigation also revealed that the juvenile male attempted to obtain naked photographs of at least another 100 juveniles, however, none of them sent photographs and refused to acknowledge the female user.
