Slatington band wins West End Fair talent show

The four judges of West End Fair's opening night talent show did not have an easy decision to make. Fifteen acts took the stage Monday night, all hoping for the $200 prize and chance to open for headliner NOMaD, Saturday night on the main stage.

Last year's winner Jordyn Albanese opened the packed show. Every bench in front of the West End Fair Main Stage was filled with spectators, friends and proud family members. The talent was singer heavy with a mix of dancers, a solo drummer and saxophone player.All-girl band and Slatington favorite, Beautiful Oblivion, performed "Hell on Heels," winning the top prize.Second-place winner Alyssa Ramsey with her rendition of "Mamma Knows Best" took home $150, and Hayley Bock covered Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," to take home third place with a prize of $100.The judges had three areas to critique the acts on: overall performance, stage presents and audience excitement. The performers have just four minutes to show the crowd and judges exactly what they can do."We are looking for originality, something that has the crowd moving. Something different," said judge Elisa Chase, co-host of Pocono radio's Gary and the Morning Show.Chase was one of four judges opening night. RJ and Randy Cramer of the Cramer Brothers Band acted as judges along with state Rep. Jack Rader.Gary of The Morning Show hosted the event. "I love doing local stuff," he said.To keep in the spirit of showcasing what Monroe's talent can do, many of the night's acts will be sprinkled into the fair throughout the week at the band shell. The dance group Dance 'till Dawn will perform there at 6:15 p.m. Friday.Acts can register for next year's fair on the website
