Coroner: Results pending

The Lehigh County Coroner's office said results are pending in the cause of death for a Slatington man who was pulled from the Lehigh River Tuesday night.

Marc Charles Henninger, 31, of 123 Fourth St., was pronounced dead by deputy coroner Wendy Brantley at 11:04 p.m. at the Lehigh River boat launch near the Route 873 bridge in Slatington, Washington Township.An autopsy was performed Wednesday.The cause and manner of death are pending further toxicological studies.The investigation is being conducted by the Lehigh County Coroner's Office and the Lehigh Township police department.According to police, four adults and a 7-year-old child were swimming in the Lehigh River just after 7 p.m.Henninger waded with the child in the water to an island. When they hit a deep spot, he became distressed because of the depth. A nearby boater rescued the child. Henninger went under and was not seen again.The Slatington Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Diamond Fire Company of Walnutport with their water rescue boat, as well as the Star Hose Company of Emerald.Dive units from Whitehall Township and Lehighton Fire Department were also requested for assistance, Nicholas said, who added that Lehigh University medevac Helicopter was also dispatched to assist with an air search of the entire area.The Pennsylvania State Police, as well as Lehigh Township Police, also assisted on scene, Nicholas said.
