Carbon driver cited after crash

A Carbon County driver was cited after a crash in Lehigh County.

State police at Fogelsville said Mark Benson, 59, of Palmerton was cited after a crash at 10:18 a.m. on Feb. 12 along Route 100 in Lowhill Township.

Troopers said Robert C. Pires, 56, of Allentown, and Raymond C. Frey, 52, of Germansville, were both southbound on Route 100 with Pries in front of Frey.

As the two vehicles approached 4816 Route 100, a 1986 Mercedes-Benz 300 Series, driven by Benson, entered the road from a busines.

Benson turned north on Route 100 and began traveling northbound on the southbound shoulder of 100 toward the two southbound vehicles.

Piers applied his brakes to slow down and Frey did not see the slowing vehicle. The front of Frey’s 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee hit the rear of Pires’ 2012 GMS Sierra.

The Mercedes then continued north on the southbound shoulder of 100, eventually turning west and re-entering the business parking lot. No injuries were reported.

The Jeep was towed from the scene.
