Busch grabs pole

Before Kyle Busch climbed into his No. 18 Toyota on Friday for qualifying at Pocono International Raceway, he stated to NBC Sports on track reporter Mike Massaro that he didn't think his car was good enough to capture the pole.

Well, it's a good thing that Kyle Busch isn't going to be going into the fortune telling business anytime soon. That's because Busch's car was plenty fast and good enough to win the Microsoft Windows 10 400 Coors Light Pole Award. The hottest driver on the Sprint Cup circuit turned the momentum from his three race win streak into a fast lap of 178.416 mph."My dad told me this week to just ride this streak as long as you can," said Busch. "You just got take this kind-of success when you can get it. I've had plenty of times in my career where things were going in the wrong direction, so this is definitely a sweet change from that."Busch certainly put himself in position on Sunday to win his fourth straight race, which would be his fifth victory in the last six races."Honestly, we're just trying to ride this wave as long as we can," said Busch. "I also have to credit my crew chief Adam Stevens and everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing for giving me such a good car today. We never got complacent and we kept making adjustments and the car got better every round we went out there."Before Martin Truex Jr. won the June race at Pocono, Hendrick Motorsports dominated "The Tricky Triangle," winning five straight. So far, in 2015 it looks like the Hendrick cars have lost a step at Pocono with not a single team in the top five. The Hendrick power is still there as Stewart-Haas Racing, who is powered by Hendrick engines put three drivers in the top six.Kevin Harvick (2nd), Tony Stewart (5th), and Kurt Busch (6th) all looked impressive in the three rounds of qualifying, while the Hendrick cars struggled to find speed.Jeff Gordon (10th), Jimmie Johnson (12th), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (15th), and Kasey Kahne (16th) still have a lot of time however to get their race package together. Hendrick has proven time and time again that they have the best adjustment turnaround in the business, so it will be interesting to see how they bounce back come Sunday.Joey Logano continued his solid 2015 campaign with a third place run. Logano, who is second in the Sprint Cup series in points hasn't won a race since the Daytona 500, but he's been close many times this season. His recent string of top five finishes should bode well for his success on Sunday. Logano has finished in the top five in six out of the last seven races, including the last three. The 25-year old Penske driver also won at Pocono back in 2012 when he was driving for Joe Gibbs."I feel pretty good heading into the race on Sunday and I'm proud of what we've been able to do this season," said Logano. "Our qualifying average has been pretty great this year; we've just been coming up a little short. What I'm most proud of is our communication. Our adjustments from practice to qualifying and from qualifying to the race have been very good. That means we're all communicating well and that's what you need when competing for a championship."Sunday will mark Jeff Gordon's last ride in the No. 24 car at Pocono International Raceway, which means there will be an extra contingent of "rainbow warriors" in the stands. Gordon will undoubtedly be digging for a victory to solidify him in the chase. Gordon is currently 12th in the chase standings, but without a win it's always a possibility he could be left out. He has six career victories at Pocono.June race winner Martin Truex Jr. will be looking for the Pocono sweep. Truex Jr. will start 13th on Sunday.
