Palmerton grabs baseball, softball wins

Palmerton managed to pick up baseball and softball wins over the weekend in Colonial League play.

BASEBALLJim Thorpe-Panther ValleyPanther Valley got a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull out a 8-7 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.Matt Hudicka's game-winning hit brought in the winning run to lift the Panthers to 4-5 on the season. Hudicka finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Anthony Vavra was also 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a double and a RBI. The girls' 4x800 relay team also managed a fourth place, to round out the team's successes.Marian's highlights were topped by fourth place finishes by Kaylee Ceci in the shot put, Brenna Karnish in the triple jump and the boys' 4x400 relay team. Nico Agosti took fifth in the 400, as well as Mark Buchinsky in the triple jump, while the girls' 4x400 relay team also came in fifth place. Andrea Schafer and Mike Pados 8-4.EPC League TournamentThe opening rounds of the inaugural Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Boys Tennis Tournament were held after rain postponed the scheduled start on Friday.Jon White was the only Pleasant Valley player to reach the semifinals of his group as he picked up a pair of victories at No. 1 singles.White beat Jason Horvath of Pocono Mountain West in his first match of the tournament at Parkland High School. Later in the day, White downed Liberty's Dan Lynn to advance to the semifinal round.No immediate date was set to conclude the tournament, but it will likely be in two weeks after districts and all of the regular season matches are completed. When play resumes, White will be facing off against the No. 1 singles player in the area, Andrew Sinai of Freedom High School. All of the top four seeds survived in the No. 1 singles brackets.Bear's singles players Erik Ammerman and Alec Herman along with all three PV doubles teams lost their opening matches.
