Headline: Pilot flies jet into mountain, may have mental problem:Recently a pilot flew his jet into the side of a mountain. An investigation proves he wanted to commit suicide. The pilot gets the blame, rightly so. But, I feel that the airline should be sued, the manufacturer of the plane should be sued because they should have known that he would fly the plane into the mountain. Also, I feel that all pilots from now on should have to take a psychological exam before getting on a plane to pilot it.Argument sounds kind of stupid, doesn't it?Headline: Man drives drunk, killing 6 people:When a person drives drunk and kills someone, everyone blames the driver for a bad action, rightly so. I feel that the car manufacturer should be sued because they distributed the car and should have known that he would drive drunk and kill people. Also the dealer that sold the car should have known that he was selling something that would be used so wrongly. Also, everyone buying a car should have to undergo a driving test every time he wants to buy a car, even if it's his 10th car.Argument sounds kind of stupid, doesn't it?Headline: Man with mental problems shoots 14 at school:When a person with a mental problem gets a gun and shoots up a school, the government calls for a ban on guns, or a background check on all gun buyers, or a ban on a type of gun or bullet. No one blames the shooter, but the focus immediately goes to the gun, which is just another gun. They say that the manufacturer should have known that the shooter would use his product to kill, and the seller should have known also. Really?Why does the same argument now not sound so stupid?Why should law-abiding citizens be put through all kinds of restrictions due to one person's misuse of a product in one case, but the same restrictions hollered down in some others? If you allow some rights to be infringed upon, then you will allow all of your rights to be trampled on in the future.Richard MagnaniBrockton
