Wanted man caught

A Carbon County man wanted on warrants was apprehended on Friday.

State police at Lehighton said Jason Robert Wilk, 30, of Lehighton, was arrested at 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of Route 443 and Troxell Road, in Mahoning Township after a traffic stop by troopers, and police from Mahoning and East Penn townships.Wilk was arrested on a warrant issued to state police charging him with felony aggravated assault and fleeing or attempting to elude police.That warrant stemmed from an incident early in the afternoon on March 8, when Wilk struck a Mahoning Township police vehicle operated by officer Tyler Meek.He collided with Meek as he fled from members of the Carbon County Drug Task Force and agents of the state Attorney General's office, along Route 895 in East Penn Township.After the collision, Wilk fled eastbound, with speeds reaching 80 mph, troopers said.The chase was terminated on Route 895 near the overpass to the turnpike after troopers lost sight of Wilk's 1999 Buick Century.He had been on the run since.Wilk also had a warrant for his arrest issued to the county sheriff's department for failure to appear for drug charges and a warrant from the county adult probation office for failure to appear for flight to avoid apprehension on a previous fleeing and eluding arrest by state police at Lehighton.When arrested, Wilk had suspected methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.Additional drug counts will be filed, troopers said.Wilk was arraigned by on-call District Judge Joseph Homanko of Weatherly and lodged in the county prison in Nesquehoning after failing to post $100,000 straight cash bail.The incident was part of a controlled drug operation conducted by the AG's office, the county drug task force, and officers from Mahoning Township and Jim Thorpe.Arrested at the scene were Curtis Margle of Lehighton, Cynthia Hippenstiel of Ranshaw, who was formerly of Lehighton, and Robert Fox of Quakertown, who was formerly of Palmerton.All three were charged with various drug counts.Hippenstiel was additionally charged with retail theft for an incident on March 6 at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township.All had quantities of heroin with a street value estimated at $4,500.
