Lehighton boys, girls get soccer wins

Five area soccer teams were victorious on Saturday, including both the boys and girls teams from Lehighton.

VOLLEYBALLLehighton-EastonRed Rover TournamentLehighton finished 3-6 in the Easton Red Rover Volleyball Tournament, taking their three wins over Pocono Mountain East. The Tribe dropped three games to both Central Bucks West and host Easton.Individually for the Indians, Alyssa Jordan led the offense with 14 kills and 16 digs. Teammate Tori Eads-Rodriguez contributed 13 assists and eight aces.Northwestern-North SchuylkillNorthwestern breezed past North Schuylkill in non-league play, 25-6, 25-14, 25-10.Abigail Monks led the Lady Tigers with nine kills, while Sarah Overstrom nailed five kills and three aces. Natcheli Gomez had four aces and Emily Wentz collected six digs and three aces.Tamaqua-CatasauquaTamaqua swept Catasaqua in a non-league match, 25-13, 25-12, 25-4Kaelyn Boran had 16 service points for the Raiders, including one run of 14 consecutive service points. she also had four aces and nine assists. Also playing well for the Raiders were Vanessa Solt (13 service points, seven digs, five kills, and four aces); Andrea Iaicovello (nine service points, six digs, three kills); and Alexis Baddick (five service points, four kills, three aces).BOYS SOCCERLehighton-PottsvilleLehighton blew open a tight match at halftime, scoring four unanswered goals in the second half to defeat Pottsville, 5-1, in Schuylkill League action.Frank Bokan had an outstanding game for the winners, scoring a hat trick and adding an assist. Ben Cordova and Joe Marks both added goals for the Indians while Patrick Lawler and Zach Christoff chipped in assists.For the Crimson Tide (8-5 overall, 5-4 league), Jake Dicello scored on a penalty kick in the 29th minute of the first half.Lehighton outshot their opponents 15-2 in the game with the Tide's Kyle Brennan stopping 10 shots.With the win, Lehighton improves to 9-3 overall and 7-2 in the league.Jim Thorpe-TamaquaTamaqua and Jim Thorpe tangled in a Schuylkill League battle with Tamaqua pulling out a narrow 3-2 win.The Blue Raiders' Josh Delp was too tough to mark, as he recorded all three of his team's goals in the victory.Meanwhile, Luke Morris and Jorge Macareno scored goals for the Olympians. Chris Williams chipped in with an assist.Jim Thorpe actually held a 16-11 advantage in shots on goal in the game, but Tamaqua goalie Hunter Bonavage stopped seven of those shots to help his team to the win.Carter Rodriguez had six saves for the Olympians.GIRLS SOCCERCatasauqua-Jim ThorpeJim Thorpe took down Catasauqua, 1-0, in a non-league match-up.Ilse Hassler scored the game's lone goal off of a header from a Camille Principe corner kick early in the game for the Olympians.Mo Jervier and Taylor Huth teamed up in goal for the Lady Olympians to post the shutout, stopping two Catty shots.Lehighton-No. LehighLehighton rallied from an early deficit to win a non-league shootout with Northern Lehigh, 6-4.Allison Andrew scored four of her team's six goals in the contest to lead the Tribe offense. Raja Quinones recorded the remaining two goals for the Indians. Morgan Yurasits assisted on two of the Indians' scores while Sydney Gandy fed a teammate for another.The Lady Bulldogs' Darby Pender had a goal and an assist. Jessie Olewine, Tiff Yesik and Emily Bevans also scored goals for Northern Lehigh.Lehighton outshot Northern Lehigh 24-18 in the game.Tamaqua-PalmertonPalmerton picked up a non-league shutout win over Tamaqua, 5-0.After a scoreless first half, the winners reeled off five unanswered to win going away.Brianna Doherty scored twice while teammates Jaclyn Wood, Johanna Matsko and Monica Wood all added goals.Julia Paulinho stopped seven shots on goal to record the shutout for the Bombers.Carly Sassaman had 19 saves for the Blue Raiders.Tamaqua picked up a 3-0 JV win.FIELD HOCKEYStroudsburg-Pleasant ValleyStroudsburg dominated Pleasant Valley in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action, 4-0.Kalista Gioglio scored two goals and added an assist to lead the winners. Jennifer Bukowksi and Nadia Ahmed also had goals. Julia Sweeney, Samantha Tepper and Lizzy Cunningham all notched assists.Stroudsburg finished with a 21-3 advantage in shots on goal.Salisbury-No. LehighNorthern Lehigh proved too much for Salisbury as they rolled to a 4-1 Colonial League win.Jessie Olewine scored two goals for the winners, while Erika Mckay scored a goal and added an assist. Taylor Herman rounded out the scoring for the Lady 'Dawgs.Salisbury's Lindsay Bauer scored her team's only goal.
